Not everything is about man vs woman

Great news people, US Elections 2016 is finally over. In not so great news Trump won and if you happen to have friends and family in US, I say good luck to you. If you haven't encountered the "scary times" narrative, you indeed have a set of very brave friends and family, or maybe just realistic people. I am a woman, hence most of my friends tend to belong to the same gender. And some of these friends seem to be echoing the same thought that Hillary lost because she was a woman. In their words, if Hillary were a man, her mistakes (Email Scam & Benghazi) wouldn't have mattered that much. When questioned on corruption (mishandling of funds, shady primary win), I get a very cool response all politicians are corrupt and a women needs to be even more cut throat. And at that very moment my world starts spinning around me, and I want to start breathing out fire. As you can see I am not a fire breathing dragon, I resort to punching keys vigorously.

Since this angry sexist label is most likely being directed towards the republicans, I want to wind our clocks back to 2008, the year when it all started. Was it sexist of Dems to pick Obama over Hillary? Were they so terribly sexist that they chose a Black Guy just to avoid a potential female prez? Or they would have been racist if they hadn't? Obama did not win by flashing his race card, on the contrary he stayed away from it & for good reasons. In contrast to the Hillary 2016 campaign, every sound bite that came out from there was 1st women Prez or that Trump is a sexist racist monster. An army of female celebs endorsed her because (that is what it looked like to an outsider like me) she was a woman and she was running against Trump, the bad bad stupid orange guy with tiny hands. If Hillary lost due to a sexist America, it is only fair to say that  John McCain lost because his VP nominee was a woman (Sarah Palin). Yes I know how it sounds, outlandish.

Don't pretend that you secretly did not wish Joe Biden/Bloomberg/Bernie were in the race. That had nothing to do with their gender, but your preference. Do you know who votes based on gender? 5 year olds. And if the reason to support Hillary was to finally break the ceiling, it was childish at best.
If you're biggest beef is that people didn't pick Hillary over Trump, know that people vote for leaders who touch local problems, we're selfish that way. And if you still feel that majority of Americans are sexist, take solace in the fact Hillary won the popular votes.

PS: Remind me again who was that philandering sex starved prez/gov from Arkansas who was elected twice?

Oops We Did it Again

What happens when you run around in circles? You get nowhere and if you're on earth a year passes by. We're back where it all started. After a round of lockdowns, aggressive tracing, testing and treating, government throwing up its hand in defeat, the virus magically diminishing from the population, we have arrived at the doorstep of another round of lockdowns. We went from tracking COVID numbers to tracking vaccinations and back to watching COVID cases quadruple every week. But this time, the government machinery is focussed on vaccinating the most vulnerable population, they might not even have the bandwidth to set up another trace, test, treat task force. But do take comfort in the fact that there won't be any vessels bangings even. On Social Media we have gone from questioning the number of cases & death reported to questioning our vaccine choices to cribbing the vaccination pace is no good and now we're again trying to find pictures of every cremation in this c...

A Picture

A picture can be a photo on your desk, a painting on your wall or maybe a movie to watch with friends. It can also be an image or an impression drawn with inks in our head. A picture can evoke emotions or stir memories, remind you of ones you longer know. It can be a time capsule of an era bygone or just a few moments ago. A picture my dear friends speaks a thousand words and still some more. This otherwise nondescript wall seems to convey the world of opposites as we know them - the dilapidated and the new! Can't touch that

One might not have heard of a temple called Shani Shingnapur before a group of women activist decided they wanted to enter the temple. There isn't really a ban on the entry of women in the temple (unlike Sabrimala), the ban/prohibition is for touching or offering oil to the deity. This hardly should be news. There might be 100s of temples where women are prohibited to enter where the idol is or to touch it. So my very first reaction to this was, a big SO WHAT? This is what years and years of conditioning does to you. As a woman/girl, you so often hear these words:"You can't do this", that I have probably become immune to the ones that seem frivolous to me. Yes I'm not a big worshipper. So what is the big deal here? Hinduism is really big on idol worship, if you hadn't noticed. An idol to us is a form of God, and hence the need to keep it "pure". Temple which have these bans, cite menstruation as the cause. Women are considered impure during their...
